Plant a fresh smile on your face with dental implants

Before the development of dental implants, dentures were the only alternative to replacing missing teeth. Composed of a crown and a titanium screw, the implant fuses to your jawbone through a process called ‘osseointegration’.

A dental implant provides just as much natural stability as your original teeth so there is generally no need to shape or cut down adjacent healthy teeth and bone when an implant is placed. Once the implant is secured within your jaw, replacement teeth can be attached to provide function as well as prevent any further bone loss.

How are dental implants “planted”?

A primary examination and a series of x-rays determine which teeth need to be replaced and the exact size and location of each implant. The implants are then surgically placed within the jaw and secured permanently. A mold is then created for precise placement of the crown.

The procedure is done under general anesthesia and you will need to prepare a ride home for after the procedure. Follow-up care will involve visiting the surgeon over several weeks to assure the tissue is growing properly around the implant. Any sign of infection or complications should be immediately reported. Healing and recovery will depend on your overall dental health and how well you follow the recovery instructions.

Are you a good candidate for dental implants?

You must have good dental health and hygiene to be a successful candidate for a dental implant. Your teeth must also be fully grown, therefore most children and teens will not qualify.
